After the government was shutdown for five hours, Congress passed a budget deal on Friday morning that is going to keep the doors open in the federal agencies and lift spending caps.

Republican Senator Rand Paul had debate in the chamber on his amendment to maintain spending caps. With Paul speaking up, this ended hopes on a quick vote.

A similar fail to pass a bill led to a three day shutdown in January.

Two government shutdowns within two weeks, but good news is that this shutdown only lasted until 8:40 am, Friday. President Donald Trump twitter fingers were in action as he tweeted that he “just signed Bill. Our Military will now be stronger than ever before. We love and need our Military and gave them everything and more. First time this has happened in a long time. Also means JOBS, JOBS, JOBS!”

After a short time period of the government being shutdown , Congress passed an expensive bill. This bill is a two year spending bill that will also fund the government for six weeks. College and Career Counselor Mrs. Sommerville said that the first shutdown “Didn’t affect me. The only people it really affected was Government workers.”

Some people think the government shutting down wasn’t a big deal if it is back again. Senior Diego Al-Kuraby stated “The shutdown was a big deal and I honestly loved how President Trump handled the whole thing and passed the bill so that the shutdown wasn’t long.”

Senior Ryan Johns commented “The government shutdown just proves that our president isn’t doing his job correctly” But the shutdown was very minor compared to past shutdowns.

All there is left to do is sit back and see what other surprises our government has in store for the future.
