The CHS Leo Club held a sock donation Jan. 2 for the Rockville homeless shelter where students and staff donate new or gently used socks.

This donation helped those in need of socks, and those who have a only few pairs in a bad condition. Homeless shelters with people who don’t have socks can get some to provide warmth and a safer cover for their feet. People who don’t have socks or have socks in a bad condition can get clean, hole-free socks to cover at least a part of their body that can get hurt from walking or objects on the floor.

“People are willing to give up socks to those who need them,”  freshman June Muzanila said. “It’s to give to those less fortunate.”

The Leo Club decided on this donation so people can become aware of the amount of homeless people and so they can give back to the community. Club sponsor Kimberly Moore, a social studies teacher at CHS, felt overjoyed with how many students and staff were willing to donate, and the Leo Club is grateful for those who helped. The drive ended Feb. 2, where a total amount of 401 pairs of socks were donated.

“It helps those people that don’t have socks or can’t afford them,” freshman Analea Chavez said. “It’s kind and helpful.”

Some CHS freshman think this donation is such a good idea they suggested the Leo Club do more to help others in need of clothing and products as well such as feminine products or simpler things like shirts. By doing this donation the Leo Club has collected many socks from students which means more socks to donate to those in need of them.

“I think it’s thoughtful, it shows that even the little things are useful to others” Muzanila said.

“We will be even more delighted to present the donation gift to the shelter, “ Moore said.
