Throughout Montgomery County, there are several student sections that promote school spirit in a positive and united way.

Student sections are very popular during the football & basketball seasons, predominantly football season, because of the popularity, crowds and excitement levels. Many schools are competitive when it comes to determining which school has the best student section, which is great because it motivates underclassmen to join in and display their school spirit. However, good student sections are not determined by how many people are in the group but, by who is able to best show off their school’s spirit in a fun and motivational way.

“A good student section is positive, energetic students who are willing to cheer for their school teams no matter what,” Blue Brigade leader Kiara Pereira said.

Many impacts are made by having and participating in a student section. Everyone in the stadium is motivated and excited, including the players on the field, the cheerleaders, and even the announcers. It is great to be surrounded by friends and being able to cheer on the players. The community becomes stronger when there are so many kids who regularly come to the games and actively support their classmates.

“Having a student section allows the student body to come together in full strength to support whatever team it may be. The Blue Brigade is essential to a team’s success,”  Blue Brigade leader Tim Lehr said.

Every school should consider having a student section, in order to better the school environment and make it a more positive and fun environment for everyone. Many students get really into it. Throwing baby powder, painting letters on their stomach or chants that the leader initiates throughout the game. All around student sections are one of those things that should always be led on in high school.
