While most CHS students spend their lunch periods meeting with teachers or conversing with friends in the halls, something quite different is taking place in the gym.

A small group of students has been meeting every Tuesday during lunch in the gym to play games of badminton. The group is welcoming anyone with an interest in the game to come down and join them in a match.

“It’s all just badminton,” sophomore Aaron Bravo, a regular member of the club, said. “We like the game and wanted some time to play it.”

The group has been meeting for a couple of months now, and the same members have met each time to play.

“Class period were too short so we began playing during lunch,” junior Jennifer Yeung said, explaining the origins of the group, “but only on Tuesday because Mrs. Dommel was was only available on that day.”

Gym teacher Lauren Dommel has supervised the group since it’s beginning and has expressed support for the students being active in a sport that they enjoy, but she’s not the only person who’s shown enthusiasm about the idea.

“It’s pretty cool,” sophomore Joey Neff said. “I’d do that if I really wanted more time to play a game, but only if I had the friends to do it.”

For now the club is nothing more than a group of students who share a common interest in a sport, but its members have been optimistic about their future, especially in seeing new members come down and play.
