The Clarksburg varsity boys lacrosse team took on Woodrow Wilson in a preseason scrimmage Saturday March 17. The game ended in a 3-3 draw after the game was called early due to a fight that broke out in the middle of the second quarter. Eight players involved in the fight were suspended for the team’s home opener against Seneca Valley Tuesday.

“I believe that they all deserved to be suspended under the circumstances,” second-year coach Mike Hunt said. “But we will bounce back from what happened and learn from our mistakes.”

Without the suspended players, Clarksburg lost to Seneca in overtime 5-4. The Coyotes know that the game could have gone differently with the suspended players.

“I was pretty upset that I wasn’t going to play against Seneca,” senior attackman Tim  Lehr said. “I had six goals against them last year, and felt that I could’ve had even more this year.”

In the game against Wilson, Lehr had two goals just in the first quarter.

“We played really well in the first quarter,” Lehr said . “We also started well in the second quarter so I definitely believe we would’ve won it we finished the game”.

“Most people were just trying to break it up” senior goalie Bryant Evans said “We were more physical and our defense started to play really well”.  Evans was also one of the eight players suspended for the home opener.

Hunt expects his team to improve their play after last year’s 2-10-1 performance,.

“I feel that this year’s team has better chemistry with each other, is more experienced, and puts in more effort towards the sport than last years team” Hunt said.
