Attention all gamers! Sony Playstation CEO Jim Ryan announced at the CES press conference that the next console will be called the Playstation 5(PS5). Sony announced that the Playstation 5 is going to be released between October to December of this year just in time for the holidays. The console is rumored to cost around $499 in the U.S.

The PS5 includes a lot more details of the components built into the consoles called specs. Some of the specs are an SSD storage system that gives the PS5 more storage space, 3D audio that makes the sound come from all angles, and 8K TV support that improves the graphics. For owners of the PS4, PS3, or PS2, there will be backward compatibility which allows all of the games on the older systems to be transferred to the PS5. 8K TV support will have a more detailed texture and a much larger scale.

CHS senior Max Bennet said, “I’m very excited for the PS5 to come out. The PS4 has been very fun for me to play with my friends and I’m eager to play with them on the enhanced PS5.”

Other than the games transferred over, some games that are projected to be coming out along with the PS5 are Outriders, Gods and Monsters, Godfall, Cyberpunk 2077, and Ghost of Tsushima.

When asked about the level of excitement about any of the new games coming out, ASL teacher Rigel Wolf-Hubbard said, “Definitely Elder Scrolls 6. I sold all my games on Xbox 360 when Skyrim came out to afford it. I made a terrible choice, but I still lived with it and was all the better for it.”

Along with the console, the PS5 will be introducing a brand new controller. The controller will include haptic feedback to replace the PS4 Dualshock 4’s rumble technology designed to improve the controller’s feedback. The controller will also feature adaptive triggers that will replace the Dualshock 4’s L2/R2 triggers which will make the triggers simulate actions more accurately.

During his announcement, Ryan said, “when you try them, you will be surprised at how big a change they are.”

Everyone who played the PS4 has been waiting for the PS5 for so long and now that it’s actually coming out they are more excited than ever.

Junior Jackson Harshey said, “I’m excited for something new since it’s been the same for the last 7 years.”
